The chapters are informed by individual veterans who discuss their experience and relate their unique stories to the audience. The film is anchored by an underlying story of one specific veteran, Bobby Dove, a US Army Special Forces medic who was critically wounded on his first deployment in the Global War on Terrorism. The chapters wind through the journey a veteran takes from point of injury through care at the Veterans Administration. The chapters include; The Worst Day, MEDEVAC, Coming Home and the VA among others. Interspersed between the stories and video of US military and VA medical operations are segments that use respective subject matter experts to discuss the various processes and injuries that the veterans face. Notable in these vignettes are discussions by the Chief of Neurology at the Cleveland VA Medical Center, implications of Post Traumatic Stress and TBI by COL (r) Elspeth "Cam" Ritchie, MD, co-author of Women at War, COL (r) Raul Marin MD a physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist at the Center for the Intrepid in San Antonio, Texas and MG (r) Patrick Brady, a US Medal of Honor recipient for his heroic actions in Dustoff helicopter medical evacuations in Vietnam. Multiple other distinguished specialists and experts in various fields of medicine are also featured. The film concludes with Bobby Dove working at his company and pursuing the next chapter of his life. The Veterans Project takes the viewer on an emotional journey that ultimately ends with a call of action directed at civilian medical personnel.
